A firm called Mobile Pixels has a product on Kickstarter that has already garnered a lot of interest as dual-screen configurations become more common in the computing sector. The Geminos dual-screen monitor provides two different viewing experiences with two 24-inch 1080p backlit LED screens, each with a 60Hz refresh rate and a 97 percent sRGB color gamut. The folding structure can be folded up when not in use and is powered by a 100-watt pass-through USB-C charging docking station for laptops or other high-power devices.
According to the company, the Geminos monitor attracted such much interest that it exceeded its $25,000 goal in just 36 minutes of going live on Kickstarter. On the site, it has currently raised more than $933,000. The crowdfunding campaign will remain active until September 3 for a few more weeks. You can slide the display up the base to conserve room or change your degree of comfort, and it can open like a laptop. According to the Kickstarter page, this feature provides an ergonomic benefit over competing dual-screen displays, which are frequently side-to-side.
The Geminos also has two built-in 4-watt speakers and a 1080p HD camera in the upper display. The base of the display is equipped with ports. A USB-A port, Ethernet port, HDMI port, and SD card slot are also included in the 100-watt USB-C pass-through docking station. The Geminos monitor is currently available for $499 on Kickstarter, and the accessories are scheduled to arrive in October. The dual-screen Laptop will eventually sell for $999.
The LG DualUp monitor, which debuted in June and costs $700, is comparable to the Geminos monitor. Basically, it is two 21.5-inch landscape displays that have been stacked vertically to provide a single, sizable portrait panel with a 16:18 aspect ratio. The double QHD (2,560 x 2,880) resolution display does not fold, but it does include an Ergo stand with pivot, height, tilt, and swivel adjustments and a vertical split view capability. Similar adjustments can be made to the display to enhance user comfort.
